Diego da Cunha, originally from Salvador, Brazil, began his journey in dance at the age of nine, first training in Capoeira and modern dance. In 2007, he was accepted into the prestigious Escola do Teatro Bolshoi no Brasil in Joinville, where he undertook formal classical ballet training.

In 2009, Diego joined the Junior Company of Bolshoi Brasil, refining his technique and artistry under the guidance of internationally renowned artists and teachers, including Natalia Osipova, Yelena Andrienko, Ivan Vassiliev, Andrey Bolotin, Andrey Uvarov, Joseph Phillips, and William Pedro. During this period, his work attracted international attention, leading to guest performances across Italy, France, Kazakhstan, Uruguay, Russia, Ukraine, Moldova, and Switzerland.

Alongside his performing career, Diego has been actively involved in dance education. He has taught masterclasses and served as a jury member at various dance festivals in Brazil, sharing his expertise in both classical and contemporary dance forms.

In 2012 and 2013, Diego was invited as a guest artist to the ‘Virtuosos of World Ballet’ gala, performing in 25 cities throughout Russia and Ukraine. His exceptional versatility was further recognised in 2014, when he received the award for Best Classical and Modern Dancer at the international dance competition Arabesque in Perm, Russia.

Since the 2015/2016 season, Diego has been a member of the ballet ensemble at the Salzburger Landestheater. There, he has appeared in a wide range of productions, captivating audiences with his technical strength and theatrical presence. Notable roles include the Prince in The Nutcracker and Josephine Baker in Mythos Coco.

In recent seasons, his performances have included Urania in Xanadu (2024), Hai and the Yellow Masked Pinzettfish in Der Regenbogenfisch, as well as Gorm and the Wolf in Wickie und die starken Männer (2023). In 2022, he portrayed Jacob in Der Schuh des Manitu and performed as a member of the ballet ensemble in Hair, all at the Salzburger Landestheater.

Diego da Cunha continues to distinguish himself as a versatile and dedicated artist, equally at home in classical ballet and contemporary dance, and remains an influential figure on stage and in dance education.
