Cristina Uta is an internationally recognized ballet master, choreographer, and pedagogue known for her exceptional teaching methods and innovative approach to dance. Born in Bucharest, Romania, she graduated from the Romanian National Ballet Academy in 1993. That same year, she joined the Romanian National Ballet in Bucharest, rapidly ascending to the position of principal dancer. During her eight years with the National Ballet, she also performed as a principal dancer with the Cincinnati Ballet Company in the USA and the Ballet de Santiago in Chile.
Throughout her illustrious career, Cristina has danced leading roles in numerous classical ballets, including Swan Lake, Paquita, La Bayadère, La Fille Mal Gardée, Don Quixote, Giselle, Raymonda, The Nutcracker, and more. She has showcased her versatility by performing in neoclassical and contemporary works by acclaimed choreographers such as George Balanchine, Ricardo Nunez, Dietmar Seyffert, Val Caniparoli, and Lode Devos.
Cristina has been mentored and coached by esteemed figures in the dance world, including Janet Sassoon—who has coached legendary ballerinas like Natalia Makarova—as well as Ivan Nagy, Maya Plisetskaya, and Peter Breuer. Their guidance has significantly influenced her artistic development and teaching philosophy.
In 2001, Cristina joined the Salzburg Ballet in Austria as a principal dancer. From 2003 to 2009, she served as assistant choreographer and ballet master at the Salzburg Ballet at the State Theatre of Salzburg, where she continued to collaborate closely with Peter Breuer. He created numerous ballets and significant roles for her, including Titania in A Midsummer Night's Dream, Carmen, Lulu, Lady Potiphar in The Legend of Joseph, Nadezhda von Meck in Tchaikovsky, and Katharina in The Taming of the Shrew. Notably, in 2005, Peter Breuer received the Maya Plisetskaya Award for his production of Carmen in Salzburg, in which Cristina danced the leading role.
As a choreographer, Cristina has collaborated with various institutions, including the Salzburg Ballet at the State Theatre of Salzburg, the State Opera Ruse in Bulgaria, Schlote Production in Austria, and the National Opera Brasov in Romania. Her development as a trainer and choreographer is grounded in over two decades of stage experience and a diverse repertoire spanning classical ballet to contemporary dance theatre.
An accomplished dance pedagogue, Cristina has extensive experience teaching ballet technique, pointe work, repertoire coaching, and alternative bodywork. For over 20 years, she has taught at international workshops, professional ballet schools, and companies, working alongside renowned artists such as Maya Plisetskaya, Cynthia Gregory, and Ildikó Pongor. She has taught at esteemed institutions including the Salzburg Ballet, Leipzig Ballet, TANZLIN.Z, and TANZ_KASSEL. To further her expertise, she pursued an M.A. in dance pedagogy at Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz, Austria.
Cristina's innovative teaching method, the Composed Ballet Technique, has gained widespread recognition for integrating classical ballet with principles from post-modern dance, sports, and somatic practices. Emphasizing virtuosity and individual expression, her method empowers dancers to expand their movement vocabulary and explore their creative potential, cultivating a deeper sense of artistry and individuality in performance.
Recognizing the importance of self-care and personal development, Cristina has incorporated elements of psychology, mindfulness, and coaching into her teaching. Through her Coaching for Excellence program, she empowers young artists and students to reach their highest potential.
In 2017, Cristina founded Dance Vision, a team dedicated to creating, performing, and producing artistic, high-quality works that inspire and engage society. Her extensive stage experience, combined with her innovative teaching methods and commitment to nurturing the next generation of dancers, has made her a highly respected figure in the world of dance.
