Salzburg in summer
Salzburg’s musical and theatrical heritage is part of everyday life, especially in summer, when performances and exhibitions bring the city into conversation with artists and audiences from around the world. Beyond the studio, historic streets, the Salzach river and nearby mountains offer space to explore and reflect. Phoenix gives your dancing focused attention; the city offers fresh impressions to bring back to your practice. At SADA, curiosity, observation and lived experience belong alongside technique.

Work across ballet and contemporary practice, with classes and rehearsals building towards final performances. Dates, programme details and the proposed Odeïon venue remain provisional.
Each summer brings a period devoted to classical ballet repertoire. Past programmes have explored Swan Lake, La Bayadère and Paquita. Le Corsaire is planned for 2027, subject to confirmation. Alongside this changing classical focus, dancers return each year to Peter Breuer’s Boléro, building a shared work through rehearsal and performance.
Full information and fees are expected in mid-November 2026. A preliminary application does not reserve a place or create a contract. Please wait for confirmation before making non-refundable travel arrangements.
Families arrange travel, accommodation and meals; SADA does not provide boarding. All under-18s need guardian-approved arrangements. As a Phoenix participation condition, dancers under 16 need a responsible adult aged 18 or above in Salzburg to supervise outside programme hours. Check the accommodation provider’s age and accompaniment requirements separately. Read the practical guidance below before booking.
The three-week Phoenix component is required for Dance Vision participants. The standalone two-week option does not replace that requirement.
Share your background and preferred duration. No payment or place reservation is made.
Consider the confirmed programme, dates, fees and participation requirements when available.
Participation follows a separate confirmation process and agreement.

Built around a company-style framework, the programme combines daily technique classes, coached repertoire, structured rehearsals and reflective guidance. Participants gain first-hand experience of professional working rhythms while developing technical clarity, artistic responsibility and consistent training habits.
Rather than a stand-alone workshop, Phoenix is designed as a focused educational phase that helps dancers make informed decisions about their next steps in training and artistic development.
Provisional dates: 12–31 July 2027 | Two or Three Weeks
The dates and programme details currently shown are provisional. Confirmed dates, course fees and essential participation information are expected to be published in mid-November 2026.
This programme is intended for dancers who:
International applicants are warmly welcome.
Participants under the age of 18 must provide written consent from a legal guardian.
Phoenix 2027 is offered in two course options:
A detailed final timetable is usually confirmed closer to the start of the programme.
For planning purposes, Phoenix follows an intensive, company-style daily rhythm from morning through late afternoon. On regular training days, classes and rehearsals generally take place between 09:00 and 18:00, depending on the day, rehearsal requirements and programme planning.
During the final rehearsal and performance period, participants may occasionally be required to remain at the venue until later in the evening.
Please note that Sundays are generally scheduled as training and rehearsal days.
Timetables, faculty assignments and studio allocations may be adjusted where necessary for pedagogical, artistic, safety or operational reasons.
Daily classes and rehearsals take place primarily at Probehaus Salzburg (Gewerbehofstrasse 7/9a, 5023 Salzburg, Austria), a professional rehearsal facility used by Salzburg’s dance and performing arts community.
Final stage rehearsals and performances are currently planned to take place at Odeïon Salzburg.
Participants are required to comply with the house rules and staff instructions of all venues used during the programme.
The programme culminates in the public SADA Dance Gala Spotlight 2027, provisionally scheduled for Friday, 30 July and Saturday, 31 July 2027 at Odeïon Salzburg, Waldorfstrasse 13, 5023 Salzburg, Austria.
The performance dates and venue remain subject to final confirmation.
Participation in the Dance Gala is an integral and mandatory component of both course options.
Phoenix – Summer Dance Intensive 2027 is offered in two formats:
Both course options follow the same educational philosophy, artistic standards and company-style training framework.
Phoenix 2027 may include:
Participants may be divided into groups according to age, level, technical readiness and learning needs. Some classes and rehearsals may take place in parallel groups, while full-cast repertoire and stage preparation bring the cohort together.
A specialised Character Dance module is planned as part of Phoenix 2027. The module introduces rhythm, coordination, musicality, stylistic awareness and performance qualities associated with theatrical and classical dance traditions.
Character Dance classes and repertoire may be assigned according to participants’ level, technical readiness, learning needs and the overall programme structure. Selected material may contribute to the final performance where artistically and practically appropriate.
Phoenix 2027 may include musical-theatre based performance work, providing participants with opportunities to develop rhythm, expression, coordination, ensemble awareness and stage presence through an accessible theatrical approach.
Phoenix 2027 is organised as a company-style training and performance programme. Alongside daily technique classes, participants work through a structured rehearsal process leading towards the SADA Dance Gala Spotlight 2027.
The programme may feature ensemble repertoire, selected classical ballet excerpts, contemporary works, musical-theatre based performance work, Character Dance, and selected solo or variation coaching. Further choreographic contributions may come from SADA faculty and guest choreographers.
Phoenix includes a period of classical ballet repertoire work each year. Past programmes have explored Swan Lake, La Bayadère and Paquita. Le Corsaire is planned for 2027, subject to final confirmation of the selected material and programme.
Peter Breuer’s Boléro is an annual part of Phoenix, alongside the classical repertoire chosen for each summer. Shared rehearsal and performance give dancers the opportunity to develop musicality, ensemble awareness and stage presence.
Repertoire allocation is determined by the faculty according to each participant’s age, level, rehearsal progress, technical readiness, artistic suitability, safety and the overall needs of the production.
While every participant is expected to contribute actively to the rehearsal process and final performances, participation in specific repertoire, solos or variations cannot be guaranteed in advance.
Phoenix 2027 culminates in two public performances of the SADA Dance Gala Spotlight 2027.
The performances are provisionally scheduled for 30 and 31 July 2027 at Odeïon Salzburg, subject to final confirmation.
Presented under full theatrical and technical conditions, the final performances may include full-cast ensemble works, selected classical ballet excerpts, contemporary repertoire, musical-theatre based sections, Character Dance material, guest choreographic works and selected solo or variation presentations.
Participation in the final performance process is an integral component of Phoenix 2027. Final repertoire, casting, solo or variation presentations and individual stage assignments are determined by the faculty according to artistic, pedagogical, technical, safety and organisational considerations.
Subject to faculty approval and rehearsal feasibility, selected participants may present solo or variation material. Such presentations are not guaranteed and depend on artistic readiness, rehearsal progress and the overall structure of the final programme.
Phoenix is an intensive training environment. Participants must be physically prepared for full participation and are expected to follow all health and safety instructions throughout the programme.
All participants are required to submit a Health Self-Declaration and proof of valid medical insurance covering their stay in Austria. A medical fitness-to-train certificate is required only where reasonably necessary, for example following a recent injury or where requested for safety reasons.
For participants under 18, including those aged 16 or 17, SADA requires a parent or legal guardian to approve the travel or living arrangements and agree support suited to the dancer’s age and needs.
SADA supervises its official programme activities at the times and locations communicated by the academy. Families arrange care, journeys and collection outside those activities. Our legal duties of care remain unaffected.
SADA’s Phoenix requirement: for dancers under 16 on the course start date, a parent or legal guardian must arrange a responsible adult aged 18 or above in Salzburg to supervise outside programme hours. This course requirement is separate from the rules that apply to the chosen accommodation.
Participants and their families arrange and pay for travel, accommodation and meals independently. SADA does not provide boarding or round-the-clock care.
For a short visit, check the accommodation provider’s minimum age, guardian-consent and accompanying-adult requirements before booking.
Short visits and accommodation for under-18s
Wait for confirmed programme dates and participation before making non-refundable bookings. You do not need to book accommodation to submit a preliminary application.
For families unfamiliar with the city, we recommend choosing accommodation with convenient public transport connections to Probehaus Salzburg. Areas around Salzburg Gnigl, Salzburg Sam and Salzburg Hauptbahnhof, as well as locations served by the S3 line or O-Bus routes 4, 10 and 23, generally provide convenient access to the training venue.
