In-depth Coaching
Born in Bucharest, Romania, Cristina Uta is an internationally recognised ballet master, choreographer, and dance pedagogue, known for her rigorous coaching, refined artistic standards, and an approach to training that combines classical excellence with contemporary intelligence. She graduated from the Romanian National Ballet Academy in 1993 and joined the Romanian National Ballet in Bucharest the same year, quickly rising to principal dancer. During her years with the company, she also appeared as a principal dancer with Cincinnati Ballet in the United States and Ballet de Santiago in Chile.
Cristina’s performing career encompassed leading roles in major classical ballets, including Swan Lake, Paquita, La Bayadère, La Fille mal gardée, Don Quixote, Giselle, Raymonda, and The Nutcracker. Her repertoire also spans neoclassical and contemporary works by choreographers such as George Balanchine, Ricardo Nunez, Dietmar Seyffert, Val Caniparoli, and Lode Devos, reflecting a broad stylistic range and strong theatrical versatility.
Her artistic development was shaped through coaching and mentorship from distinguished figures in the ballet world, including Janet Sassoon, Ivan Nagy, Maya Plisetskaya, and Peter Breuer. These influences continue to inform her teaching philosophy, choreographic practice, and artistic leadership.
In 2001, Cristina joined the Salzburg Ballet in Austria as a principal dancer. From 2003 to 2009, she served as Assistant Choreographer and Ballet Master at the Salzburg Ballet at the State Theatre of Salzburg, working closely with Peter Breuer. He created numerous roles for her, including Titania in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Carmen, Lulu, Lady Potiphar in The Legend of Joseph, Nadezhda von Meck in Tchaikovsky, and Katharina in The Taming of the Shrew. In 2005, Peter received the Maya Plisetskaya Award for Carmen in Salzburg, with Cristina performing the title role in that production.
As a choreographer, Cristina has created works in collaboration with institutions including the Salzburg Ballet at the State Theatre of Salzburg, the State Opera Ruse in Bulgaria, Schlote Production in Austria, and the National Opera Brașov in Romania. Her choreographic and coaching practice is grounded in more than two decades of stage experience and a repertoire spanning classical ballet, contemporary dance, and dance theatre.
Alongside her stage and choreographic career, Cristina is an accomplished educator with extensive experience in ballet technique, pointe work, repertoire coaching, and complementary bodywork practices. For more than twenty years, she has taught in international workshops, professional schools, and company contexts, including engagements with institutions such as the Salzburg Ballet, Leipzig Ballet, TANZLIN.Z, and TANZ_KASSEL. She further deepened her pedagogical practice through an M.A. in Dance Pedagogy at Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz, Austria.
Cristina’s signature methodology, Composed Ballet Technique, integrates classical ballet training with principles drawn from post-modern movement research, sport science, and somatic approaches. Emphasising virtuosity, clarity, and individual expression, the method supports dancers in expanding their technical range while developing a distinctive artistic voice.
Alongside physical training, Cristina incorporates aspects of psychology, mindfulness, and coaching into her work. Through her Coaching for Excellence programme, she supports young artists in building performance resilience, focus, and professional self-development.
In 2017, Cristina founded Dance Vision, a team and platform dedicated to creating, producing, and presenting high-quality artistic work that engages audiences and contributes meaningfully to the cultural landscape.
