Born in Bucharest, Romania, Maria Postelnicu is a ballet pedagogue, dance educator, and character dance specialist with extensive experience in classical ballet, repertoire, stage practice, and the training of young dancers. She began her ballet training at the age of eight at the George Enescu Choreography High School, where she received a strong foundation in classical ballet.
Her early professional path included work at the National Opera Bucharest, followed by international artistic and teaching engagements in Germany, Japan, France, Spain, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Russia, Bulgaria, Italy, and Austria. Her artistic development was shaped through studies with distinguished teachers including Mihaela Crăciunescu, Cristina Hamel, Amato Căciulescu, Lulu Ross, Raul Ercianu, M. Umrichin, and Oleg Danovski.
Alongside her stage experience, Maria also appeared in Romanian television and film, working with directors such as Stere Gulea and Sergiu Nicolaescu. As a teacher, she has taught classical ballet, repertoire, and character dance in Germany, Italy, Romania, Greece, and other international contexts. Her students have received awards at national and international competitions.
In 2012, Maria received recognition from the Bucharest Opera on the occasion of its ninetieth anniversary, and in 2013 she was honoured by the Province of Cosenza in Italy for her artistic and pedagogical contribution. Since 2016, she has served as Artistic Director of Dance Campus & Contest San Francesco di Paola together with her husband, George Postelnicu.
Today, Maria brings her deep knowledge of classical ballet, character dance, repertoire, and stage tradition into her teaching. Her work supports dancers in developing stylistic awareness, musical precision, expressive clarity, and a professional understanding of classical performance culture.
